Entanglements
Glazed stoneware, 2015 - ongoing
Everyday we read new alarming studies on global warming, the pollution of the oceans and various catastrophes. The acceleration of the destruction of their natural habitats are bringing more and more species on the brink of extinction.
In this series of sculptures, manufactured objects are combined with plants, in an attempt to imagine organisms that would mutate in order to survive the pressure of anthropogenic activities.
This project consists entirely of cast parts and required the completion of a multitude of plaster molds. The parts thus produced are deformed, cut and reassembled. The brightly colored glazes I developed for this project reference aposematism, a defense mechanism used by certain animals to signal to potential predators that it might be dangerous to attack them.
